I'm finding myself enthralled by my personal choice of the best horror film ever The Evil Dead from 1981. The Evil Dead, more and more every time I see it. This is the case for the sequels (Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness) and soft reboot from 2013, which I do not really consider a true remake, but would count among the best remakes of horror movies if I did. I'm also finding myself thinking about something different about this tale of intensely gory and often humorous tales of demonic possession with each new viewing.

My most recent rewatch of all four Evil Dead movies in preparation for the upcoming 5th installment Evil Dead Rise -the only upcoming horror movie I'm looking forward to the most not an exception. What do you think? simple screwheads take the time to read through this breakdown of the fun things that struck me while rewatching one of the best horror movie franchises ever? Let's start at the beginning.

Many might write off The Evil Dead as just another cabin in the woods thriller, but a more thorough analysis of the scary, seminal classic reveals just how intricate director and writer Sam Raimi's screenplay truly is. Consider, for instance the clever use of foreshadowing -- an element of the storytelling that I hate to admit was not apparent to me until the most recent rewatch. I love the way the film teases Cheryl Williams' (Ellen Sandweiss) future fate after she observes the door to the cellar shutting and opening by itself early in the film or when her brother Ash (Bruce Campbell playing the part which made him a popular horror movie iconic) discovers a sketch in the Necronomicon that resembles the book when the book "comes into existence" at the very closing.

It is not that I never really noticed the flow of blood out of the possessed Scotty's (Richard DeManincor, credited with the role of Hal Delrich) stomach wound like a faucet up to now. This was, however, the first time that I actually focused on the incident. I suppose I was fascinated by the picture of blood that bears the look of cherries Kool-Aid instead of dyed corn syrup and I think I appreciate the uniqueness of it more than I ever have even though the blood looks more medically accurate in the other parts of the series.

Another scene from the visceral final sequence in The Evil Dead that has always captivated my attention is when arms exploding appear from Cheryl and Scotty's deadbeat Deadite self. For a long time, I thought that this was another example of the astounding visual talent of Raimi However, it occurred to me this time around that these were demon arms and, more specifically, of the demons who possessed Ash's friends. Have you seen something so bizarre and terrifying in a supernatural horror movie that deals with demonic possession, like, say, The Exorcist?  watch Evil Dead Rise  don't think so.
